PERSONALITY

With a bright smile and self-described “even-keel” demeanor, Libby brings a sense of tranquility into every atmosphere she enters. Having lived through hard times, she’s learned to see the best in situations and demonstrate a positivity that radiates to those around her.

STORY

With her small dog, Willow, by her side, Libby has lived in transitional housing for the past four years, where she’s been known to orchestrate social events like barbeques with fellow residents. Libby used to sell music in Lifeway stores before discovering her true career calling: teaching preschool, which she did part-time until she had double knee replacement in 2011. A combination of factors, including struggles with mental health, led Libby to lose her house and fall on hard economic times before she finally secured section 8 housing. Libby began experimenting with jewelry as a hobby and relaxation technique; she claims that unleashing her creativity alleviates her depression and gives her a sense of autonomy, even in the midst of difficult situations.

AT UNLOCKED

As our first Maker, Libby has graciously exhibited flexibility by working on park benches, testing new products, and helping cast a vision for the company. Libby claims that she appreciates the community and sense of purpose that UNLOCKED provides her. The self-confidence and wages that Libby gleans through her work will help propel this transitionary period, setting her up for sustainable progress.

FUTURE PLANS

A self-sufficient and independent woman, Libby has already begun the search process for her own house. She hopes to relocate within the year and continue working with jewelry, hopefully starting her own business in the future.

UPDATES

Libby stopped working with Unlocked in April of 2018. She is doing well and is still a dear friend of the team.
